About us

by Coralviu

Coralviu is a Sea jewelry project born in 2018, as a result of the union of the passions of Fernando Garfella and María Mantecón. Fernando, since childhood linked to the underwater world, was dedicated to its care and protection; Maria, found in jewelry a place to connect with herself and creativity.

This project was raised with care, illusion, affection and enthusiasm, involving the acquisition of new knowledge such as photogrammetry, 3D design and the casting process.

THE JEWELS

The passion

We both made numerous dives to obtain the designs of these jewels, waiting for the ideal conditions of visibility to achieve the desired result. Coralviu starts from the dream of undertaking a project with an environmental cause, for the benefit of our seas and our planet.

THE ESSENCE

The values

On August 9, 2020, Fernando lost his life in the sea and Maria decided to go ahead with the project, to convey Coralviu’s message of the need to protect our ecosystem, of the importance of the contribution of each one of us; as well as a personal tribute to Fernando, to his life dedicated to the care of the sea.

SUSTAINABILITY

The Packaging

The packaging of this collection has been developed following Coralviu’s common thread, the passion for THE SEA.

That is why materials directly related to the sea have been used to store such a special jewel.

The bag that holds each piece of this collection is made from the remains of sails that one day were immersed in a voyage, traveling miles of different oceans and that once exhausted its useful life worn by the force of the winds have come to wrap these unique pieces made by hand, thus obtaining a second life.

Each of these bags is unique, there is no one identical to another, just as there is no wave the same as another, each wrapper has been handmade, at the mercy of the feelings that appeared in the elaboration.

The fact: for every 100 buttons 50 grams of plastic are removed from the sea, it may seem insignificant, but let’s remember that drop by drop the sea is made, button by button we make our oceans get rid of what they don’t need and what hurts them (us) so much.

Another aspect that requires special attention is the closure of the bags. At first glance they may look like banal pieces of plastic, nothing could be further from the truth, because behind each sea button there is a story.

Each and every one of these buttons has been collected from the sea. Some were lying on the sand, the result of a storm, others submerged in the coastal waters and rocks of the Mediterranean and Cantabrian Sea. Very different seas but united by the same misfortune. Every year thousands of tons are intentionally or unintentionally dumped into the waters of the oceans, becoming the great pandemic of the dominant element on our planet.

The beginnings of Coralviu

THE ORIGINS

After two years of working together for Coralviu to succeed, on August 9, 2021, Fernando lost his life in that same sea, thus taking care of each other since that day. Since then, I never doubted that this project had to come to light, even if it was only to contribute our small grain of sand.

We started Coralviu from scratch, working hand in hand for two years. Fernando was trained in 3D printing and design and we got to have our own small foundry at home, thus carrying out the entire manufacturing process of our designs.
